1. APPEAL

> There will be a bail appeal for all those remanded in
> a few days time - possibly Monday or Tuesday next
> week.

> There are two stages to the Greek appeals process: the
> first is the appeal to be granted bail; the second
> stage appeals at the charges themselves. If the bail
> appeal fails, a new appeal can be lodged the
> following month and repeated each month thereafter, we
> understand.

> The appeal on the charges will be heard in 2 - 3
> months at a "minor" court in front of a council of
> judges who will review the case. If this fails, a new
> appeal can be launched in the 2-3 months following.
> This is heard by the "superior" court - again in front
> of a panel of judges.

> 2. PRISON & VISITORS

> All prisoners are being held together at a temporary
> holding centre.

> This is standard practice, they have yet to be moved.
> As it currently stands The only people allowed to
> visit are family members and partners. Each prison in
> Greece has different procedures on visitors - some
> have none but we are confident that Simon’s prison
> will have visitors rights. The actual visiting
> regulations will be known when we know which prison
> Simon and the others are being been sent to. This will
> be sent on in subsequent updates as soon as we know.

> 3. MONEY & SUPPORT

> Thanks to all who have offered support, be it with
> donations of money or other items. Simon’s supporters
> in Greece are currently buying Simon new clothes,
> phone cards, cigarettes, Greek translation books,
> English newspapers and also arranging to send him
> money. In Greece each prison has a bank, and each
> prisoner a bank account. Money cannot be transferred
> directly into the account, therefore a Greek bank
> account will be set-up by the weekend. There is no
> limit on the amount of money Simon can receive.

> There has been a huge response from Greek comrades who
> have donated money to support all the prisoners, but
> that does not mean that we should not continue to
> raise money from the UK. Indeed if Simon is bailed
> then he will need a lot of cash to secure his bail. At
> this stage we are liaising with his supporters in
> Greece as to the best methods for collecting and
> dispatching any money raised in the UK. As is the case
> in the UK, it may not be a good idea at this stage to
> advertise a bust fund for Simon/Thessaloniki Prisoners
> as bail costs/conditions may well increase if the
> judges get wind of international support.
