Straw Bale work on eco-building in St.Anns Part 30

Work has been continuing at EcoWorks with the Straw Bale building in Nottingham. The building, now being fully enclosed [short of the main doors], and all window frames fitted.

This last weekend, sat 13- sun 14th saw further application of lime render to the outside of the building. This involved making up the lime/sand mix, treading it, and applying it by hand in a nice sculptural style to the building! This will probably be the last lime application of the summer [did I say summer!!], and made some "finishing touches" to the existing limework. The building fabric is now hopefully approaching the finished state.

Also on Sunday the 14th Ecoworks was open as part of the 'Heritage Open Day', with loads going on around the site. The project got a large number of visitors both visiting independently and as part of guided tours around the site. It was great to so so many people have their 'eyes opened' by the project and this building. We can only hope that they might take away a little inspiration. See more at  http://www.staa-allotments.org.uk/events/open.htm

So, dear readers, if you have enjoyed watching the progress of this building being constructed ..... how about getting out from behind your computer screen, and get up to EcoWorks in the new year, and volunteer your services.

All could have been done a lot earlier, if a bunch of 'already-skilled' people had just got on with it. But, it was generally descided that by involving many volunteers, folks might go away, and having been inspired by the project, and with a bit of hands-on experience ....... have ideas and help others think about what they could do with other sustainable projects in their own areas.

*****

Panorama

15.09.2008 00:11

I thought I'd do a few panoramas, to give some idea of a 'sense of place' .... a context for this building and to show you that it fits right in with its surroundings.

These piccys are each made up of 12 exposures and represent about a 270 degree field of view.

I know they are 1500pix across. I've deliberately not made then any smaller, intending you to move the page right and left to take it all in.
